Audi’s Power Identification system | Audi South Africa
The language of the future.
Audi’s vision of the future is efficient, innovative and revolutionary. Introducing Audi’s Power Identification system. A badging system that uses a common language to describe the power output for combustion, hybrid and electric engines through a double-digit designation.
The reference value for the model designations is the power output of the individual model in kilowatts (kW). Audi is thus sub-classifying its model range into different performance levels – each identified by a two-numeral combination. Audi has elected to use a range or band of kW’s to arrive at each model’s power identification. kW’s are also in line with electric engine technology and would therefore accommodate any future models with hybrid and electric drives.
Audi’s Power Identification is made up of different power output bands of kW’s and can be demonstrated in the table below:
Power output designation |
KW |
25 TFSI |
From 70 |
30 TFSI |
From 81 |
35 TFSI/TDI |
From 110 |
40 TFSI/TDI |
From 125 |
45 TFSI/TDI |
From 169 |
50 TFSI/TDI |
From 210 |
55 TFSI/TDI |
From 245 |
60 TFSI/TDI |
From 320 |
70 TFSI/TDI |
From 420 |
For example, the numeral combination “30” will appear on the rear of all models with power output between 81 and 109 kW. And “45” stands for power output between 169 and 209 kW. The top of the Audi model range is the performance class above 400 kW, which is identifiable by the number combination “70”. In each case the numerals appear along with the engine technology – TFSI, TDI, g-tron or e-tron.
As alternative drive technologies become increasingly relevant, engine displacement as a performance attribute is becoming less important to our customers. The clarity and logic of structuring the designations according to power output makes it possible to distinguish between the various performance levels for our vehicles.
At Audi, innovation means being the first to embrace change. Change done right, is called progress.
The naming will be applicable to all Audi models arriving from the last quarter of 2018 onwards
(excluding S, RS and R8 models).
